From Catholicvote.com: the formal sign for healthcare |
Jonic's view of Congress |
I believe that health care matters, as there are so many obstacles
that we face between long term illnesses and accidents, there needs to be
solvable solution to make sure that all American’s are covered for life. I am hoping to get a lot of feedback from you
all about this subject but as I will research this issue in the coming days on
the Internet and newspaper, this has become my passion on saving our health care
system.

Very relevant topic right now! This is an issue I care a lot about, as I do NOT receive health insurance from my employer (because, like 60-70% of teachers at our college, I am not a full-time faculty member), and because I have a per-existing condition that means a regular insurance company such as Blue Cross always denies me.
ReplyDeleteNaturally, you will find plenty of recent news articles on this issue. But on a more philosophical level, you might want to read this article by Peter Singer. It's a few years old and definitely controversial, but it addresses the ethical issue of universal health care: "Why We Must Ration Health Care"

P.S. can you change the font type of your comments? I find this fancy script a bit hard to read. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI also am concerned about the healthcare issue, but probably from the other side of it. While I do think we need healthcare reform, I do not believe that the government has the right to make you buy a product you do not want, nor to buy it for someone else's benefit. This has already affected my ability to get healthcare. When they first started all this talk about this bill, I was on the lowest rung of our healthplan, HSA with highest deductible. We are trying to maintain a single worker household so I can stay home with our kids full time. When all this talk started, that when our rates started going up. Every three months for a year and a half! It wasn't long before we were priced out of the least expensive plan they had, and these liars in Congress are still telling us we can keep the healthcare of our choice! Wrong! The providers started jacking the prices up before the bill, because they knew that after the bill, they would be unable to raise the premiums. So now, after searching for other providers, I get denied for a pre-existing condition, that was one-off condition caused by something else that can't even occur again (pregnancy). And while I don't want to deny anyone else the opportunity to get healthcare, I don't believe it is MY duty to provide it for you. Just as it is not your duty to provide mine. If I want to see a doctor, I will pay it for myself. My money, my doctor, my care. I will NOT have some gov't funded doctor decide what my level of care is based upon how much it will cost, and trying to reduce those costs because it's paid out of the gov't pool as to what gets covered and what not. Because of these changes, and the circumstances thrust upon us, my husband and I have opened our own business with no employees, and will fund our private care out of the new company. At least this way, if I must work, it will be at home with my family as was intended, and not shuttled into this monstrosity of what they call health'care'. I will gladly pay more for a private practice doctor than this idiocy of a program and their death panels.
